This car made a number of visits to Wichita from its Pasadena, Texas, home. Wichita's Ted DeTar built the engine and eventually, driver Chuck Grimsley moved to Wichita. This altered wheelbase machine is a prime example of the match racing "funny car" born from the "legitimate" Factory Experimental drag racing class.
In the photos below of Chuck at the wheel for the first time since the '60s, the power is being supplied by a tow vehicle. Chuck said there was one particular thing that hadn't changed through the years - the car was darned hard to stop.
