60s Starting Line A

The red-orange Cobra was Neal Chance's B/Modified Sports machine (powered by a small block Chevy), but I can't remember who had the Anglia on the left. All I remember is that it was sponsored by Rose Bowl West which was a bowling alley on the west side of Wichita. I understand this car may still exist.

The car on the left above was a T-bodied Competition Roadster and the dragster on the right is probably owned by Vern Plett. There is a black and white photo of this car elsewhere on this web site with the recollections of one of the early employees of the dragstrip.

Both of these cars ran in B/Altered. The Fiat was called "Mellow Yellow" and the duece roadster was owned by the Wheeler Brothers. Mellow Yellow is still being raced, but it is no longer yellow and has been modernized. I have learned that the duece was originally owned by Jerry Cogswell and was one of the first fiberglass '32s around. The mold was pulled from a car owned by R.C. Williams.

The only thing I think I remember about the Funny Car-looking Chevy II on the left was that I think it ran as an altered. The injected Chrysler-powered T on the right was Harold Wilson.
